Dr. Kathy Nguyen was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. She graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences and completed her Doctor of Optometry from Pacific University College of Optometry. Dr. Nguyen completed clinical rotations around North America in Alaska, Kentucky, New Jersey and right here on Vancouver Island. After graduating, she went on to complete an optometry residency in primary care and ocular disease at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. Dr. Nguyen's professional interests include specialty contact lenses and myopia control. She has completed the Brien Holden Vision Institute's Myopia Education Program.
She has previously volunteered with the student chapter of VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity) to provide eye care to communities in Costa Rica and rural China and plans to continue these missions in the future. She is a sitting member of the Continuing Education Committee of the BC Association of Optometrists.
During her free time, she loves to bake, hike and backpack with the goal of completing the West Coast trail. She also adores her cat Lumi, named after the glaucoma medication Lumigan.
